«Но вы примете силу, когда сойдет на вас Дух Святый; и будете Мне свидетелями в Иерусалиме и во всей Иудее и Самарии и даже до края земли» ( Деян.1:8) – этот библейский текст отражает смысл и цель Международного молодежного конгресса, который прошел с 1 по 13 июля в столице Южно-Африканской Республики, г. Претория. Край африканского континента, омываемый двумя океанами, как ни что лучше является хорошей иллюстрацией конца земли, куда должна дойти Евангельская весть в последнее время.
Важно отметить, что Церковь адвентистов седьмого дня, достаточно хорошо известна в этом христианском государстве. Лишь в столице проживает около пятнадцати тысяч наших братьев и сестер. Конечно же, это немного другая Церковь, нежели мы привыкли видеть в России. Они более эмоциональны, легче вступают в диалог о духовных ценностях и открыты для общения с другими людьми.
Первая половина конгресса была полностью посвящена социальному служению. Молодые люди, из разных стран, объединенные в группы, под руководством местных кураторов строили детские площадки в бедных районах Кейптауна, ремонтировали классы в начальной школе Йоханнесбурга и проводили музыкальные концерты для пожилых людей в Претории. На самом деле и география, и количество сделанных добрых дел намного шире, чем перечисленное. Везде, где адвентистская молодежь могла послужить местному населению, они это сделали.
В социальном блоке из России принимали участие только два человека, брат Игорь из Заокского и сестра Любовь из Новосибирска. Они участвовали в разных проектах и за неделю успели подружиться с молодежью с других стран, к которым они были присоединены. Их небольшой опыт о местном укладе жизни оказался очень полезен для основной группы делегатов с Евро-Азиатского дивизиона, которая приехала к открытию официальной части конгресса 8 июля. Конечно же, по сравнению с общим количеством делегатов, которых было около 3200 человек, наша группа из 36 не казалась большой. Но наше присутствие являлось прорывом, т.к. этот конгресс был первый из трех, который посетила молодежь и молодежные руководители с нашего поля.
Те, кто посещают конгрессы регулярно, может отметить сходство между ними не зависимо от места проведения. Всегда присутствуют три обязательных компонента: богослужение, обучение и миссионерское служение. Однако в этот раз полностью один день был посвящен пасторам и молодежным лидерам. Точнее общению с руководством Всемирной Церкви. Пастор Тэд Вильсон, президент Генеральной Конференции Адвентистской церкви, обратился к отдельно собранным молодежным служителям с вдохновенной проповедью, а потом отвечал на вопросы и участвовал в обсуждении современных молодежных инициатив с разных стран и континентов. А в это время для остальных участников конгресса были организованны экскурсии, знакомящие с особенностями жизни диких животных в Африке.
Остальные дни были насыщенны разного рода семинарами и тренингами. А в перерывах каждое поле могло найти для себя место, чтобы представить свои достижения или распространять рекламу учебных заведений или молодежных движений в рамках церковной организации.
Суббота 13 июля был кульминацией всех предыдущих дней конгресса. Все делегаты с членами поместных общин собрались для совместного богослужения на стадионе. Более 18 тысяч человек присутствовало на этом торжественном богослужении! Субботнюю школу о силе молитвы провели 14 человек участников миссионерского проекта «Один год в служении». Эти молодые люди из разных уголков нашей планеты посвятили себя на служение Богу. В течении шести месяцев они жили в Нью-Йорке и занимались миссионерской работой среди местного населения. По прошествии этого периода, в Манхеттене была проведена Евангельская программа. По её завершению 120 человек заключили завет с Господом. Такое число крещенных – настоящая сенсация для церквей богатейшего района мира!
По окончании субботней школы ко всем собравшимся обратился врач-нейрохирург Бен Карсон, ставший известный после успешно проведенной первой в мире операции по разделению детей сиамских близнецов. А его книга «Золотые руки», описывающая трудный путь чернокожего мальчика из этнического гетто до врача с мировым именем, стала жизненным руководством для многих отчаявшихся молодых людей.
С проповедью ко всем собравшимся обратился, Тэд Вильсон. В духовных размышлениях, он вновь напомнил о важности ежедневно выстраивать близкие отношения с Господом и Спасителем Иисусом Христом. Беречь себя от греха и изучая Слово Божье быть готовым нести Евангельскую весть до края земли. Этот призыв сразу же нашел свой отклик. Все делегаты конгресса после субботнего служения приняли участие в распространении книги на английском языке «Великая надежда». Около двадцати тысяч человек получили в тот день весть о Великой Надежде! Уверен, что Господь приведет в свое Царство через это служение многих людей.
В тот же вечер состоялось торжественное закрытие конгресса. Бог обильно благословил всех делегатов не только новыми друзьями, но и новыми миссионерскими инициативами, духовным опытом и желанием жить для Господа!
“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” (Acts 1:8) – This text of the Bible reflects the meaning and the purpose of the International Youth Congress, which was held from 1 to 13 July in the capital of South Africa, Pretoria. The edge of the African continent, washed by two oceans, like nothing serves as a good illustration of the end of the earth, where the Gospel message must reach in the last time.
It is important to note that the Seventh-day Adventist Church, is well known in this Christian state. Only the capital city is a home to about fifteen thousand of our brothers and sisters. Of course, it’s a little different church than we are used to see in Russia. They are more emotional, more easily enter into a dialogue on spiritual values and are open for communication with other people.
The first half of the congress was devoted entirely to social service. Young people from different countries, united in groups and led by local facilitators, built playgrounds in poor areas of Cape Town, renovated classrooms in a primary school of Johannesburg and conducted music concerts for the elderly in Pretoria. In fact, the geography and the number of good deeds done much wider than the above. Wherever Adventist youth could serve the local population, they did it.
In the social unit participated only two Russian people, brother Igor from Zaoksky and sister Lyubov from Novosibirsk. They participated in different projects and during one week managed to made friends with young people from other countries. Their little experience of the local way of life was very useful for the main group of delegates from the Euro-Asia Division, who came to the official opening of the Congress on July 8. Of course, compared with the total number of delegates, which was about 3,200 people, our group of 36 did not looked great. But our presence was a breakthrough because this congress was the first of the three ones, visited by the youth and youth leaders from our field.
Those who attend congresses on a regular basis, could note the similarities between them, regardless of the venue. There are always three main components: worship, teaching and missionary work. But this time, one day was fully devoted to pastors and youth leaders. To be more exact, to communication with the leadership of the World Church. Pastor Ted NC Wilson, president of the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventist Church, addressed the assembled separately youth ministers with an inspired sermon, and then answered questions and participated in the discussion of today’s youth initiatives from different countries and continents. And at the same time tours that introduce the features of the life of wild animals in Africa were organized for the other members of Congress.
The remaining days were full of all kinds of seminars and training sessions. And during breaks each field could find a place to present their achievements or distribute advertising of its schools or youth movements within the church organization.
Saturday July 13th was the culmination of all the previous days of the Congress. All the delegates with members of the local churches gathered for a joint worship service at the stadium. More than 18,000 people attended this solemn divine worship! Sabbath School dedicated to the power of prayer, was conducted by 14 participants of missionary project “One year in the ministry.” These young people from different corners of the world have dedicated themselves to the service of God. For six months they lived in New York and were engaged in missionary work among the local population. After this period, evangelical program was held in Manhattan. By the end of it 120 people made a covenant with the Lord. Such a number of baptized was a real sensation for the churches of the richest part of the world!
At the end of the Sabbath School neurosurgeon Ben Carson, who became well-known after first successful operation in the world (separation of Siamese twins) addressed to the audience. And his book, “Gifted hands”, which describes the hard way of black boy from ethnic ghetto to the doctor with a worldwide reputation, has become a vital guide to the many desperate young people.
Then pastor Ted Wilson delivered a sermon. In his spiritual admonishing, he reiterated the importance to build a close relationship with the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on daily basis. He called the audience to protect themselves from sin and studying the Word of God be ready to carry the Gospel message to the ends of the earth. This call found its response immediately. After Saturday’s service all the delegates took part in distributing of the book, “The Great Hope” in English language. That day about twenty thousand people heard the news of the great hope! I am sure that the Lord will bring to His Kingdom many people through this ministry.
The same evening, the solemn closing of the Congress took place. God richly blessed all the delegates not only with new friends but also with new missionary initiatives, spiritual experience and a desire to live for the Lord!
