Может ли глухой человек быть миссионером? Да, и очень успешным! В этом я убедилась, побывав на Первом миссионерском конгрессе глухих Западно-Российского союза, который проходил в стенах Заокского христианского адвентистского университета с 19 по 22 сентября. В конгрессе приняли участие более 100 глухих делегатов из России, Киргизии, Казахстана, Украины и Беларуси.
«Вера от слышания». А слышать можно не только ушами. Как сказал Экзюпери, зорко одно лишь сердце. В Туле уже 15 лет существует община глухих. Пресвитер этой общины Павел Петров, слабослышащий с детства, получил богословское образование в Заокской семинарии. Павел – воспитанник интерната для глухих детей, который располагался в 1990-х годах в одном из поселков Заокского района. Студенты семинарии взяли шефство над интернатом. Благодаря дружбе с христианами изменилась к лучшему судьба многих воспитанников интерната, а Павел стал хорошим миссионером. Ключевую роль в его жизни сыграла Вера Павелко, семья которой переехала в Заокский на жительство. Во время конгресса сестра Вера рассказала, как преподавала Библию подросткам, среди которых был Павел. Впоследствии многие ее ученики пришли в церковь.Павел называет ее своей духовной мамой.
Во время субботнего богослужения Павел Петров продемонстрировал, что Бог наделяет каждого верующего духовными дарами. Он эмоционально и компетентно провел урок субботней школы, сделав акцент на том, что ни у кого из членов церкви нет повода превозноситься, так как все таланты и способности являются дарами от Господа. Главное – от всего сердца желать служить людям. А затем брат Павел вышел дирижировать хором глухих. Вы удивитесь, но глухие люди очень любят петь, у них особенное отношение к музыке. Не слыша звуков, они чутко воспринимают ритм, поют руками. Жестовое пение – очень воодушевляющее и прекрасное зрелище.
«В последние полгода я плотно общался с глухими адвентистами, и открыл для себя удивительный мир, полный примеров мужества и доброты, великого посвящения и духовного подвига, – говорит пастор Василий Мурга, руководитель отдела Субботней школы и личного служения Западно-Российского Союза. – Люди с ограниченными, как мы думаем, возможностями, показали мне, как безгранична Божья милость, как многое может человек, если он доверяет Богу. Не помню случая при организации больших конгрессов, чтобы участники были так дисциплинированы, как на конгрессе глухих. На мероприятия никто опаздывал, а в зале все стремились сесть поближе, занимали сначала передние ряды. Конечно, не слышащим важно видеть мимику выступающих, так как они читают по губам. Но еще я заметил, что они очень любят учиться. Мы с радостью вручили каждому участнику конгресса диплом о том, что они прослушали курс лекций и семинаров «Библейское учение в контексте XXI веке». Пусть Бог благословит их труд и жизнь».
Во время конгресса Лилия Дерябкина (Россия) и Людмила Котляр (Украина) прочитали семинары о семейных отношениях. Зная, как часто глухим людям приходится сталкиваться с непониманием окружающего мира, Александр Лисичный рассказал им о том, как правильно реагировать на несправедливость в жизни. «Важно не то, как к вам относятся, а как вы на это реагируете. Если вас обидели, – посоветовал пастор Лисичный, – вспомните, что вы представляете огромную ценность для Бога, и тогда несправедливое отношение не будет вас ранить».
«Почему мы стремимся к святости? Может быть, мы хотим почувствовать свое превосходство над окружающими? Хотим, чтобы люди нас хвалили? Или мы стремимся к преобразованию и возрождению ради того, чтобы прославить имя Иисуса Христа, и показать в своей жизни Его любовь и милость?» – эти вопросы осветил в проповеди президент Западно-Российского Союза Игорь Красильников.
В своих выступлениях не слышащие делегаты подтвердили эту мысль. Они не хотят быть исключительно объектом помощи и жалости. Они хотят и могут служить Богу своими дарами. У них есть уже немалый опыт, и они готовы воспринять новые идеи. О некоторых простых методах благовестия рассказал делегатам пастор Владимир Котов. Среди организаторов и участников конгресса были люди с недюжинным талантом – фотохудожник Павел Сергеев(он придумал и нарисовал эмблему конгресса – Библия, говорящая руками), специалист по евроремонту и активный миссионер Олег Степанов. Музыкальным служением на конгрессе руководила слабослышащая Жанна Пшеничная.
В конгрессе принял участие Ларри Эванс, заместитель Отдела управления ресурсами Генеральной Конференции и представитель ГК в Международной организации служения глухим. По его словам, больше всего глухих людей в Кении, что является следствием низкого уровня здравоохранения. По данным Всемирной организации здравоохранения, в мире от 93 до 300 миллионов глухих и слабослышащих. Это население целой страны! «Мы хотим учредить Комитет при Генеральной Конференции, чтобы делать что-то особенное для людей, имеющих особенные нужды», – сказал пастор Эванс.
Из общения с глухими на конгрессе в Заокском я поняла, что глухие больше всего на свете жаждут… общения с миром слышащих. Они хотят, чтобы их услышали и поняли. И они очень хотят услышать Слово Божье, Евангельскую весть.
Глухие люди, несмотря на многие мифы, бытующие в обществе, могут делать абсолютно все, кроме того, чтобы слышать. Конечно, им все же проще общаться в своей среде. Из-за особенности восприятия мира в их среде сформировалась своя субкультура, особый язык. Кстати, язык жестов недавно легализован в России. Теперь в судах, полиции и множестве официальных инстанций обязаны обеспечивать возможность полноценного ведения дел на жестовом языке. Жестовый язык теперь ничуть не хуже любого другого языка, существующего на территории России.
В конгрессе приняли участие сурдопереводчики Оксана Мишанина, Александр Слюсарский (Украина), Геннадий Строкин, Илья Пасынков, Замира Акентьева (Россия) и другие. Некоторые из сурдопереводчиков – дети глухих родителей, они научились языку жестов, чтобы помочь своим родителям общаться с миром слышащих. Самая юная из сурдопереводчиков конгресса, 16 летняя Анна Степанова, – ответ на молитву ее отца, пресвитера Олега Степанова, который организовал при общине адвентистов в подмосковных Химках класс субботней школы для глухих (уроки адаптируют специально для их понимания).
Удивительные истории о служении глухих миссионеров рассказали пасторы Андрей Кичаев и Илья Пасынков, совершавшие служение в Киргизии. Один из пресвитеров общины глухих в Бишкеке был когда-то криминальным авторитетом. В криминальной биографии Марата тяжелые преступления, несколько арестов. Но жестокое, каменное, эгоистичное сердце разбилось о любовь Иисуса. И в жизни его начались чудеса. Первым делом Марат раздал долги всем, кого обидел, подобно библейскому Закхею, о котором, кстати, узнал гораздо позже, когда пастор адвентистской общины начал читать с ним Библию, готовя его к крещению. Заключив завет с Господом, Марат стал свидетельствовать людям о Христе. Его проповедь глухим, которые знают всю его жизнь, проста и безошибочна: «Вы помните, каким я был? Вы видите, каким я стал? Это сделал Иисус Христос».
Девизом конгресса стал текст из книги Второзаконие (4:1): «Собери ко Мне народ, и я возвещу им слова мои, из которых они научатся бояться Меня во все дни жизни своей на земле и научат сыновей своих». Это призыв к церкви, задача которой – открыть глухим Слово Божье.
Нам необходима программа вовлечения глухих в служение, создание миссионерских стратегий, которые могли бы быть восприняты глухими. К ним нужен особый подход, основанный на общении, дружбе, поддержке, добром примере жизни тех, кто им проповедует. Необходимо подготовить сурдопереводчиков, адаптировать Библейские уроки, снабжать жестовым переводом фильмы, телепрограммы, видеопроповеди, интернет-сайты. Такие программы уже есть, их список надо продолжать.
Конгресс завершился пением гимна «Объединенные в благовестии». Участники еще раз торжественно посвятили себя на служение обществу и ближним.

Can a deaf person be a missionary? Yes, and he can be a very successful one! I was convinced in this by attending the First Missionary Congress of the Deaf people living on the West Russian Union territory, which took place at Zaoksky Adventist Seminary and Institute from September 19 to 22. The congress was attended by more than 100 deaf delegates from Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Ukraine and Belarus.
“Faith comes by hearing”. And one can hear not only with his ears. In the words of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry only with the heart one can see rightly. The congregation for hearing-impaired people has existed in Tula for 15. Pavel Petrov is the elder of this congregation, he is hearing-impaired since childhood, and he received his theological education at Zaoksky seminary. Pavel is a graduate of a boarding school for deaf children, which in 1990s was located in one of the villages in Zaoksky district. Seminary students took patronage over the boarding school. Through friendship with Christians lives of many students from this boarding school have changed for the better, and Pavel has become a good missionary. Sister Vera Pavelko has played a key role in his life, her family moved to Zaokskiy to live there. During the congress sister Vera told the audience how she taught the Bible to the teenagers and Pavel was among them. Later on, many of her students came to the Church. Pavel calls Vera his spiritual mother.
During Sabbath worship Pavel Petrov demonstrated that God gives spiritual gifts to every believer. He conducted Sabbath school lesson in emotional and competent manner focusing on the fact that none of the members of the church has a reason to be haughty as all the talents and abilities are gifts from God. The main thing is to have a desire to serve people with all your heart. And then brother Pavel came in front to conduct a choir consisting of deaf. You’d be surprised, but deaf people love to sing, they have a special attitude to music. They do not hear the sounds, but they keenly perceive rhythm, singing with their hands. Gesture singing is very inspiring and is a beautiful sight.
“During the last six months I closely dealt with deaf Adventists, and discovered an amazing world full of examples of courage and kindness, great dedication and spiritual achievement, – says Pastor Vasiliy Murga, the director of Sabbath School and Personal Ministries department of the West Russian Union, – people with disabilities, as we think of them, have shown to me that God’s mercy is boundless, a human being can achieve a lot if they trust God. I do not remember a case while organizing large congresses that participants were as disciplined as those at the Congress of the Deaf. No one was late, and in the hall everyone tried to sit closer to the front, they wanted to occupy the front rows. Of course, those who do not hear need to see the facial expressions of the speakers, as they read their lips. But I also have noticed that they love to learn. We gladly handed a diploma to each participant of the Congress that they attended a course of lectures and seminars “Biblical doctrine in the context of the XXI century”. May God bless their work and life.
During the congress, Liliya Deryabkina (Russia) and Ludmila Kotlyar (Ukraine) gave seminars on family relationships. Knowing how often deaf people have to deal with the lack of understanding of the world, Alexander Lisichnyi told them how to react to injustice in life. “The important thing is not how people treat you, but how you respond. If you have been offended – advised pastor Lisichny – remember that you are valuable to God, and then the unfair treatment will not hurt you”.
“Why do we strive for holiness? Maybe we want to feel superior over others? Do we want people to praise us? Or we are committed to the reformation and revival in order to glorify the name of Jesus Christ, and to show in our lives His love and mercy? “- those issues were highlighted in the sermon of the President of the West Russian Union Igor Krasil’nikov.
Deaf delegates supported this idea in their speeches. They do not want to be exclusively the objects of care and compassion. They are willing and able to serve God with their gifts. They already have a lot of experience and they are willing to accept new ideas. Pastor Vladimir Kotov told the delegates about some simple methods of evangelism. Among the organizers and participants of the congress were people with remarkable talents – photographer Pavel Sergeev (he came up and drew the logo of the Congress – the Bible, talking with its hands), a repairmen and an active missionary Oleg Stepanov. Zhanna Pshenichnaya, a hearing-impaired sister, led the music ministry at the Congress.
Larry Evans, the associate director of the General Conference Stewardship department and a representative of GC in International Deaf Ministries organization took part in this Congress. According to him the biggest number of deaf people lives in Kenia, which is a consequence of the low level of health care in the country. According to the World Health Organization there are from 93 to 300 million deaf and hearing-impaired people in the world. This numbers could be compared to a population of the whole country! “We want to establish a Committee at the General Conference to do something special for people with special needs,” – said Pastor Evans.
While communicating with the deaf at the congress in Zaoksky I realized that more than anything else the deaf people… are hungry for communication with those who can hear. They want to be heard and understood. And they are very eager to hear the Word of God, the Gospel message.
Deaf people, in spite of the many myths prevalent in society can do absolutely anything, except to hear. Of course, they find it much easier to communicate in their own environment. Because of the particular perception of the world their own subculture and a special language was formed in their environment. By the way, the sign language has recently being legalized in Russia. Now, the courts, the police stations and many official institutions are obliged to provide full opportunity of doing business in sign language. Sign language is now no worse than any other language that exists in Russia.
The congress was attended by sign language interpreters: Oksana Mishanina, Alexander Sliusarski (Ukraine ), Gennady Strokin, Ilya Pasynkov, Zamira Akenteva ( Russia ) and others. Some of the interpreters are children of deaf parents, they learned the sign language to help their parents to communicate with the hearing world. The youngest of the interpreters was 16 year old Anna Stepanova – she is the answer to the prayer of her father, Elder Oleg Stepanov, who organized in the Adventist community in Khimky (Moscow region) a Sabbath School class for the Deaf (lessons are adapted especially for them).
Pastors Andrew Kichaev and Ilya Pasynkov who served in Kyrgyzstan shared amazing stories about ministry of the deaf missionaries. One of the elders of the Adventist congregation for deaf in Bishkek used to be a mafia boss. In Marat’s criminal biography were serious crimes and several arrests. But the brutal, stony and selfish heart has broken because of love of Jesus. And miracles started to happen in his life. First of all Marat paid off all his debts to those who he has hurt, like the biblical Zacchaeus (he found out about this Bible character much later when the pastor of the Seventh-day Adventist congregation began to read the Bible with him, preparing him for baptism). After making a covenant with the Lord, Marat began to witness to people about Christ. His preaching to deaf people, who know about his life is simple and unmistakable: “Do you remember what kind of person I was? Do you see what have I become? Jesus Christ did this to me”.
The text from Deuteromony 4:10 was chosen as a motto of the congress: “Gather the people to Me, and I will let them hear My words, that they may learn to fear Me all the days they live on the earth, and that they may teach their children”. This is a call to the Church and its task is to reveal the Word of God to the deaf.
We need a program to involve deaf people into ministry; we need to create missionary strategies that could be perceived by deaf. They need a special approach based on fellowship, friendship, support and good example from the life of those who preaches. Interpreters must be prepared, Bible lessons should be adapted, movies, TV programs, sermons in video and web-sites have to be provided with sign language translation. Such programs already exist and this list should be continued.
The congress was finished with singing “United in evangelism” hymn. The participants once again dedicated themselves to serve the society and people around them.
