Долголетие человека и благосостояние народа зависят от отношений: к Богу, детей – к родителям и молодых людей – к пожилым. В Священном Писании Бог заповедал почитать старцев: «Пред лицем седого вставай и почитай лице старца, и бойся Бога твоего. Я Господь» (Лев. 19:32).
25 января детским, молодежным и музыкальным отделами 1-й Адвентистской общины г. Гомеля была проведена программа для пожилых людей. Все братья и сестры приглашали на этот вечер друзей и знакомых почетного возраста. Для них из уст детей и молодежи через песни и стихи звучали благодарность, теплые пожелания, слова ободрения и любви. Пожилым по годам, но молодым сердцем, с их опытом, жертвенностью, оптимизмом, которым стоит поучиться и многим молодым, -трудолюбивым, закаленным жизнью, преданным Богу, семье, детям, внукам организаторы программы желали благословения и здоровья. Дети в стихах рассуждали о том, кто такой пожилой человек и сделали вывод, что это – человек, умеющий ценить жизнь, научившийся прощать и любить, а еще – это кладезь ума и опыта. 
У пожилых людей можно учиться жизни, практической мудрости. В Библии записано: «В старцах – мудрость, и в долголетних – разум» (Иов. 12:12). Старость может быть благословением и примером для живущих рядом с ними. Библия наставляет, что пожилые мужчины и женщины должны учить своим примером молодых (Титу, 2 глава). Молодых же на программе призывали чаще проявлять любовь и уважение к своим бабушкам и дедушкам, быть добрыми и чуткими, не причинять боли своими поступками и словами, т.к. они достойны уважения и признательности. Это они дали жизнь нашим родителям. И без них не было бы нас. На протяжении программы дорогим пожилым старались показать их важность, ценность и востребованность в этом периоде жизни. Ведь у христиан есть высказывание: «Верующие на пенсию не выходят – у них всегда есть труд в Церкви».
Адвентисты почетного возраста также в своих песнопениях и стихотворениях прославляли имя Господа. Рассказывая о своей жизни, они говорили, что не унывают, хоть и пролетают годы, и лица покрываются морщинками (напоминая, что это ожидает каждого). Говорили о том, что надо всегда быть с Господом, оставаться добрыми и не стареть душой. Именно о них записано в Писании: «Насажденные в доме Господнем, они цветут во дворах Бога нашего; они и в старости плодовиты, сочны и свежи, чтобы возвещать, что праведен Господь…» (Пс. 91:14-16). Пожилые люди могут чувствовать себя нужными, важными и полезными, они могут молиться, поддерживать, заботиться. Это прекрасное и нужное служение. Молитва является одним из самых плодотворных служений для пожилых людей. В Евангелии от Луки (2 гл.) записан пример Анны, которая была вдовой и служила в храме ежедневно постом и молитвой.
В конце служения для всех пожилых братьев и сестер приятной неожиданностью стали сувениры в виде открыток, сделанных своими руками и подарков в коробках с надписями «Бабушка» или «Дедушка». Все были приятно удивлены и обрадованы.
Затем все с удовольствием пели песню: «Мы – семья», и даже по просьбе исполнили ее дважды. После служения было организовано чаепитие. Царила дружелюбная, радостная атмосфера единства. Вечер проходил в Божьем присутствии, в теплом общении братьев и сестер друг с другом, на котором звучали духовные песни и духовные опыты.
Чтите пожилых людей. С возрастом, молитва псалмопевца может стать и вашей молитвой: «И до старости, до седых волос, Боже, не оставляй меня, чтоб я людям возвестил мощь Твоей руки, поколенью грядущему – силу Твою» (Пс. 70: 18).

Longevity of a person and well-being of the people depend on relationships: with God, between children and parents and between young people and the elderly. In Scripture, God commanded us to honor the elders: “You shall rise before the gray headed and honor the presence of an old man, and fear your God: I am the Lord.” (Leviticus 19:32).
January 25 children, youth and music departments of 1st Adventist church in Gomel had a special program for the elderly. All brothers and sisters invited to this evening their friends and acquaintances of the respectable age. For them from the lips of children and young people gratitude, warm wishes, words of encouragement and love were sounded through songs and poems. Program organizers wished blessings and health to all who advanced in years, but young at heart. Children speculated about who the older man is and concluded that he is a man who knows how to appreciate life, one learned to love and forgive, and has a trove of mind and experience. Older people can teach us life and practical wisdom. The Bible says: “Wisdom is with aged men, And with length of days, understanding.” (Job 12:12). Old age can be a blessing and an example for those living near them. The Bible says that older men and women should teach young by their example (Titus, Chapter 2). On the program young were also called to show more love and respect for their grandparents, to be kind and empathetic, not to cause pain by their words and deeds, because advanced in years are worthy of respect and gratitude. It is they who have given life to our parents. And without them there would be none of us. During the evening the elderly were shown their importance, value and demand in this period of life. After all, Christians have a saying: “The believers never retire – they always have work in the Church.”
Adventists of respectful age have also praised the Lord’s name in their songs and poems. They talked about the need to be always with the Lord, to remain good and be young at heart. It is written: “Those who are planted in the house of the Lord
Shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bear fruit in old age;
They shall be fresh and flourishing… “(Psalm 92:13-14). Older people may feel themselves still needed, important and useful. They can pray, support, and care of someone. It is a wonderful and necessary service. Prayer is one of the most fruitful ministry for the elderly. In the Gospel of Luke (Chapter 2) there is example of Anna, who was a widow, and served in the temple every day with prayer and fasting.
At the end of service all older brothers and sisters got a pleasant surprise in the form of postcards souvenirs, hand-made gifts and boxes with inscriptions “Grandma” or “Grandpa.” All were pleasantly surprised and pleased.
Then everyone enjoyed singing the song: “We are a family.” After the service all had a Tea Party where there was a welcoming atmosphere. The evening was held in the presence of God in the warm fellowship of brothers and sisters with many spiritual songs and spiritual experiences.
Honor the elderly. As we age, the prayer of the psalmist can become your prayer: “Now also when I am old and grayheaded,
O God, do not forsake me,
Until I declare Your strength to this generation,
Your power to everyone who is to come.” (Psalm 70:18).
